Choose your Content Simple Strategy
Before you start making money with your short videos, you first need to decide what kind of videos you want to create.
Idea of repurposing viral content:
The easiest way to create content is to reuse stuff from other creators on platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Some YouTubers grow their channels this way, but be careful if you want to build your brand in the long run.
Repurposing your existing content:
To save time creatively, you can reuse content you’ve already shared on other platforms. If you often upload videos on TikTok or Instagram, you can repurpose those videos by using them as shorts on your YouTube channel.
Creating new content:
The most challenging but potentially most rewarding way to approach content is to make new videos specifically for YouTube. While this takes more time compared to reusing old videos, it increases the chances of your content doing well on the platform. No matter which approach you pick, keep a close eye on your channel’s analytics to see what content is doing good and what isn’t.

Can you monetize YouTube Shorts?
Yes!
People have been able to make money from regular long YouTube videos for over 15 years, earning over $50 billion during that time. However, Shorts, a newer video format on YouTube, initially didn’t allow monetization through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). Luckily, in late 2022, YouTube introduced monetization options for Shorts, allowing creators who make short videos to earn money from their content.
How does YouTube Shorts monetization work?
Making money from YouTube Shorts involves a few different methods:
- 1. Sharing ad revenue from YouTube Shorts.
- 2. Earning a share of subscription revenue from YouTube Premium for Shorts.
- 3. Utilizing YouTube Shopping.
- 4. Receiving fan funding from viewers.
Back in 2021, YouTube started Shorts monetization with the YouTube Shorts fund, a $100 million fund meant to reward creators making engaging Shorts content. It was a temporary solution until YouTube established a long-term way to monetize Shorts. The fund ended when Shorts ad revenue sharing began in February 2023.
Who is eligible for YouTube Shorts monetization?
To make money from YouTube Shorts, you need to meet certain criteria. You must have at least 1,000 subscribers. Also, you should either get 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days or gather 4,000 valid public watch hours from long videos in the last 12 months. It’s worth mentioning that watch hours from Shorts in the Shorts Feed don’t count toward the required watch hours. So, if you mostly make Shorts, concentrate on meeting the Short’s views requirement.
